Walmart

So, you know when you go to Sam's or Walmart and there is a little cart out with samples to try and a friendly person to tell you about the product?  Well, there was a whole aisle lined with these carts and the ladies at each cart had a microphone  and loud speaker.  Each one was loudly telling us about the product on their cart...all at the same time.  In addition to this chaotic sound, there are televisions hanging with loud commercials playing on them.  Because we are in a very old, large city, the Walmart is two levels.  You walk in and take an escalator to the lower level, which is where the clothing, electronics, personal items, household items & dry food items are.  Then you take a ramp-style escalator with your cart to the upper level, where the fresh fruits and vegetables and other food items are.  You check out on the upper level.  It smells very strongly of ripe fruits and vegetables mixed together with meat.  Its lovely.  Here is a sampling of videos and pics.  I hate Walmart at home and only go there when I have to, but it was a fun experience to see how they do Walmart in China.

The store front

This is our guide, Sean (as in Sean Connery).  It didn't appear that he had ever been to Walmart.  He told us his wife did the shopping.

This was our favorite  t-shirt in the ladies section.  I'm not sure if you can enlarge it or not, but it is hysterical.  We wonder if the average Chinese woman would know what it says.
